Walker County Title Company was established in 1898 by A.T. Randolph who operated the company for over 35 years. In the 1930s E.R. Berry purchased Walker County Title Company. Mr. Berry came to Huntsville in 1918 to coach football at the local university, then known as Sam Houston State Teachers College. Following his coaching career, he opened an office on the square to practice law. In 1936, following a devastating fire that destroyed the building housing his law office, he joined with local attorney, Robert Smither, to form the law partnership of Berry & Smither, and shared ownership of Walker County Title Company until Berry’s death in 1968.

On January 1, 1970, Robert Smither sold a one-half interest in the title company to his law partner, Lloyd C. Martin. Lloyd C. Martin was a shareholder and active manager of Walker County Title Company until his passing in 2019. In 1972, the Walker County Title Company had an abstract plant built for San Jacinto County and began issuing title insurance in San Jacinto County. A few years later, a partial interest in the title company was sold to Attorney James M. Haggard, who subsequently sold his share to Joe B. Henderson, Jr., who remains a partner in the law firm Smither, Martin & Henderson, P.C. Hurlene Savage was originally employed by the Smither & Martin law firm in November 1972, where she remained until March 1982 when she assumed management duties at Walker County Title Company. Alvin L. Martin, grandson of Lloyd C. Martin, joined the law firm and became a shareholder in the title company in 2016. In 2020, Walker County Title Company opened an office in Madisonville doing business under the name of Mustang Title, handling transactions in Madison and surrounding counties.
